How to present data in LaTex?

There is an Overleaf Example file to store all the example coding, you can open it while reading this LaTeX guideline.

Making Lists

In LATEX, there are two sorts of lists that are provided by default: {itemize} creates bulleted lists, and {enumerate} creates numbered lists. It can help you typeset your essay nicely. Each list item is defined by the command “\item”. Sub-lists can be created by nesting lists. Nevertheless, you can custom the bullet symbol using “[ ]”square brackets after the \item. For example, \item[+] will give a + as the bullet. You can even use words as bullets, for example, \item[e.g.].

Inserting Figures or Pictures

Besides text and tables, you might want to insert images, diagrams, or drawings created using other software in documents. \usepackage{graphicx} is dedicated to this. It is already mentioned on LaTeX – Basic. Moreover, you need to upload your file first. (The upload button of Overleaf is on the second row of the left top corner.)

CommandRemark
\begin{figure}You can also insert other types of files in your document.{table}{chart}
[h]Pictures placement specifier[h]: place approximately here (if it fits)[t]: place at the top of page[b]: place at the bottom of page[p]: place on a separate page
\centeringCentres the image on the page(By default the pictures are left-aligned. )
\multicolumn[scale=0.5]1=100%(Orginal size of the file), it will scale the image by the desired factor. [scale=0.5] means reducing by half.
{Blueprint.png}Enter that file’s name.
\caption{Blueprint Academy \& Space Logo}LATEX auto adds the word “Figure” and number in order before the caption. For this example will be Figure 1: Blueprint Academy & Space Logo.
\label{fig:Blueprint}\label marks the figure’s number that we can refer to in the in-text with the command \ref.
\end{figure}The end of figure
\ref{fig:Blueprint}Insert the figure’s number in the in-text.

Simple Table

The {tabular} command is used to create tables. In LATEX tables, Vertical and horizontal lines are not automatically added; you must specify them if you want them. Also, LATEX will automatically decide the column widths. Let’s begin with table 1 as an example.

Table 1

CommandRemark
\begin{table}[h]Wrap the tabular environment in a table environment for adding a caption for that table.
[h]Table placement [h]: place approximately here (if it fits)
\centeringCenter all the elements in the table environment.
\begin{tabular}Starts a tabular environment to draw a table.
{|c||c|c|}Structure of table{l} for a column of left-aligned text .{r} for a column of right-aligned text.{c} for a column of centre-aligned text.{|} for a vertical line.{||} for a double vertical lineFor this example, LaTeX is informed that there are 3 centred columns have 5 vertical lines in the table..
\hlineInserts a horizontal line
\multicolumn{3}{|c|}{Apple Varieties}\multicolumn{3}: Merge 3 column to be a header.{|c|}:Structure of merged column {Apple Varieties}: Text displayed inside the merged column
\\End of this row
\head{ }&\head{ }&\head{ }Head row of table
&Separate column entries
\$Inserts a dollar sign in LaTeX
\end{tabular}End the tabular environment.
\caption{Price List of Apple}LATEX auto adds the word “Table” and number in order before the caption. This example will be Table1: Price List of Apple.
\label{tab:apple}
\begin{table}End the table environment.
\ref{tab:apple}Ref

Equations

LATEX is famous in academia because it is effective at typesetting equations and formula, which is one of the key reasons. \usepackage{amsmath} is helpful for adding equations and formulas to LaTeX documents. It has several features that make it easier to write arithmetic formulas and enhance the output’s typographical quality. It is already mentioned on LaTeX – Basic.

Inserting Equations

LaTex has three methods of writing and displaying mathematical symbols or equations.

1) The single dollar sign “$…$” is used to write mathematical symbols or equations within a sentence.

2) If you want an equation displayed on a new line and centred,  you can use “$$…$$”.

3) Moreover, you can number the displayed equation by using \begin{equation}…\end{equation}.
