SAT Move Online from 2023

SAT is online from Mar 2023, and all students will take the new computer-based SAT through a laptop or tablet at the test centre. The computer-based SAT will be around 2 hours, much shorter than the current paper-based SAT(3 hours). It will also reduce the waiting time to receive test results by spending only a few days instead of a few weeks.

Difference of test questions between paper and computer-based

Like the current paper-based SAT, it includes Reading & Writing Sections and Maths Sections with a break between two sections. The overall score will still be on a 1600 scale. The computer-based SAT syllabus hasn’t changed all that much from the present. However, the computer-based SAT takes less time because of more direct questions.

In the computer-based SAT, Students will read shorter passages in the reading and writing part, and there will be just one question for each passage. For the Maths section, questions in context (word problems) will be less wordy than those on the current test. In addition, the Computer-based SAT will not include No-Calculator Portion. Thus, students can use a calculator though the whole SAT.

How to prepare SAT?

Some SAT practice tests (paper-based) are on the College Board’s official website. You can predict your scores by trying to do those tests paper before the actual test day. Therefore, please follow strict time limits and testing conditions to ensure prediction accuracy.

On the College Board’s official website, you can find paper-based SAT past papers. By attempting to complete those past papers, you can predict your scores. To ensure prediction accuracy, kindly adhere to rigorous SAT time constraints and testing guidelines.

If you want to do the digital SAT mock test, you must wait until the fall of 2022. The official will release the latest sample SAT computer practice tests at that time. Moreover, the full-length practice tests will be available in the exam application. All the mock tests will be on the CB Digital Exams app, which is the same as the actual SAT exam.

We also provide SAT course if you need extra help studying for SAT. Contact us to know more.

The preparation for your device

All students will take the SAT on a laptop or tablet after Mar 2023. Before you attend the computer-based SAT, you must install the CB Digital Exams app on your device, or you can request to borrow the device from College Board in advance.

You can visit this download page with your device, which will be used at SAT. (The download page will detect your device type and make the appropriate file available. )

It is the responsibility of students to bring a fully charged device to the testing location. But for students to complete the test, testing centres will also supply a power source.

You do not need to worry about internet connection problems during the test, as the exam app will store your progress. Therefore, you can still be able to test without losing testing time. Additionally, each testing centre will have a technology coordinator and a help centre offering technical assistance for device problems.

Moreover, the exam app provides students with various exam tools, including the flag questions function, a countdown clock, a built-in calculator, and a reference sheet with common formulas.  However, if you want, you still can bring your calculator for the test. You can also bring a pen or pencil to the exam as the test centre will provide the scratch paper even if the whole test will complete on your device.

When should you take the SAT?

It would help if you gave yourself enough time to take the SAT before submitting your college applications. Thus, you would not be in trouble because of one failing SAT. You can predict to attend SAT between 2 and 3 times in total with avoiding the time that is school exams. In addition, some US universities have a deadline for early admissions in October or November. If you are a Year 13 student, it is too late to register for the SAT in October. As a result, you can do as follows:

1) The fall of Year 12 (Oct 2022)

2) The spring of Year 12 (Mar 2023)

2) The summer between Year 12 and 13 (Jun 2023).
